DG1-Front-Cover

And just like that…here we go! This is our inaugural cover and like pretty much everything else around here it’s got a story all its own. Harold is pretty much a madman with his covers and while I’ll give him an element or two sometimes I usually just let him run amok because he makes me look really good for doing that. As we neared time to start working on the series we started talking about what the cover should be, because I really needed promo art to start the early marketing scheme on this thing. With Indy comics, you gotta start early and hit often or pretty much no one knows you even exist. So anyway, Harold was open to suggestions and I mentioned that I’d had the idea to kinda ape the variant cover for Man of Steel #1 from way back in the day. MOS is one of the classic reboot stories and I’ve always been an unabashed John Byrne fan, so why not right? Harold was all over it and in less than a day he came back with this cover, more or less as you see it here. At first, I was like…’yeah but that’s not what I meant’. What I’d originally envisioned was just her chest as she tears open her shirt! The more I looked at it though, the more I really loved it and after about 30 minutes I was kicking myself for even considering asking for edits.

Colors wise I think Lisa really rocked this cover in a big way. Like my reaction to the pencils my first thought was ‘wow, pink huh?’ But as I looked at it, I just cracked up. Dynagirl is probably the last girly girl you’re ever going to meet, but she does have a definite feminine side and she has a great sense of humor which I think this cover really conveys. So in the course of both the art and colors phase both Harold and Lisa kept things very much on track and kept me from totally screwing it up! You gotta love teamwork!

Logo wise, I tried a few different versions but I always kept coming back to this one. Like everything else, it cracks me up and it just totally fits her personality, which makes it whimsical and fun and yet still very much Dynagirl.

So there you have it. Some behind the scenes intel and the beginning of what we hope to be a very long and fun ride. Welcome to Dynagirl!
